Private Installation – Birthday present, Prague

“The commission for this painting came primarily as a birthday surprise for the lady of the beautiful two-storey family home built of red English brick and illuminated by a unique glass pyramid in the centre of the main staircase where the painting was to be placed. It was a place full of light from the panes of glass overlooking the sky, the surrounding countryside and the brickwork of the corners of the house. The client and his wife fell in love with my original 2012 painting, Spiral, which along with the location for the new painting beautifully defined the future artwork.
The painting “Sun with the House” is based primarily on the spatial brief and concept of the house. A beautifully lit and airy hallway with a generous staircase, where the light itself meets the people coming into the house is a big theme of this artwork. I used the motif of the glass spiral, which in colour also comes from the definition of the house – a beautiful brick pyramid house in the green, inside a spacious corridor with white walls, grey tiles, a modern geometric library and a wonderful view of the garden. All of this is carefully captured in the painting – a glass spiral house made of bricks and coloured glass tiles, with the sun shining into it (emphasised by the striking yellow field in the centre of the painting, as well as the yellow striped circle, which softens the whole painting and adds a certain dynamism). The colours of air, water, green and soil are put together like a mosaic.
The painting is also meant to express a kind of compromise between purposefulness and diligence (the motif of building a building) and calmness or relaxation (eternal sun, water, air). Shades of red and pink add passion, and the central blue “eye” calms the mind and gives space for imagination and uplifting dreaming.”
