“Born 1974 in Cesky Krumlov, she dedicated herself to drawing and the study of architecture and descriptive geometry from a young age. In 1998 she graduated from Masaryk University in Brno with a degree in Economics and Law, allowing her to work more professionally and effectively with galleries, art collectors and corporations, in addition to her artistic talent and geometric background.
Petra Skopalova often works with philosophical and metaphysical ideas, which she transforms into pure geometric compositions. Her works deal with issues of perception of time, human interaction and communication with the inner and outer world in order to discover one’s own essence and life’s mission. She is inspired by modernist and constructivist art movements such as the Suprematism of Kazimir Malevich and the architectural works of Mies van der Rohe, Richard Neutra and Zaha Hadid.
In her geometric paintings, Petra Skopalová places great emphasis on capturing movement, hidden irregularities or altered perspectives, thus achieving an interesting dialogue between the artist and the viewer. Her works thus have not only aesthetic value, but also a deeper thought subtext, through which the artist reflects on the world and human existence in general.”
